Expert Legal Representation for Failure to Appear Charges, Attorney in Marietta, GA

Do not let an FTA suspension get in the way of your life, job or reputation

A traffic ticket can ruin your week. Paying the ticket without argument before you are required to appear in court can be expensive. If you are not guilty of the offense for which you were cited, you have the option of going to court to negotiate down the offense or fight the charge outright. And when you go to court, you want capable and determined representation like ours, at the Law Offices of Melvin S. Nash, to help you avoid serious penalties.

What is failure to appear (FTA)?

Tickets and traffic court are neither convenient nor enjoyable. When your court date comes around, putting off the date may seem like a reasonable decision. But there are consequences. If you fail to appear in traffic court at your appointed date and time, the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) will send you a notice of FTA suspension to begin 28 days from the date of the missed appointment. If you handle the citation prior to the start of your FTA suspension, you may not lose any rights, but you still forfeit the option of simply paying the ticket or fine as you could have prior to your missed court date.

Consequences of failure to appear in court

Possible punishments for a failure to appear in court are as follows:

  • A warrant for your arrest may be issued.
  • Your drivers’ license may be suspended.
  • You may receive notice of license suspension or a warrant issued for failure to appear.
  • You may incur an additional contempt of court fine.

It’s always better to show up and face your charges rather that avoid them and incur more severe penalties.

What the firm can do for you

An FTA conviction can limit your liberty to move about freely and get to and from your job and child care, interfere with your livelihood, and otherwise make your life incredibly inconvenient.

Many clients do not appear in traffic court in the first place because they are unable to pay the cost of the traffic violation ticket, and then they are unable to pay the fines.

But failure to appear charges can also be connected to other types of crimes, such as white collar crime, drug crimes, or homicide.

Our criminal defense lawyers support you throughout your entire case, so the earlier you secure representation, the better. If you’ve been charged with failure to appear, we’ll advocate for minimal or reduced penalties, such as reduced fines, parole or probation in lieu of jail time, and retention of driving privileges.
